Here at CBD Origin, we love to review products from powerhouse brands that are known for their potency and purity. Sometimes we’ll come back to certain brands and review different products from their lineup. That is precisely what we’ll be doing in our review today of a more advanced-user item from the D8 THC Shop: a Delta-8 THC pre-roll! Pre-rolls are convenient because they’re ready to smoke right out of the package, don’t require any additional hardware to use (other than a lighter), and offer a satisfying buzz in a matter of minutes. If you’re a fan of tobacco and hemp fusions, keep reading to see our thoughts on this unique type of Delta-8 THC inhalables! We’ll start with a brief overview of what Delta-8 THC is, what to expect from a Delta-8 THC high, and finish off with our full-blown product review.
Delta-8 THC is one of the many cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. You may already be familiar with two other cannabinoids: Delta-9 THC and CBD. Delta-9 THC, commonly known as marijuana, is a psychoactive cannabinoid that has been used for centuries to treat mental illnesses, acute and chronic pain, insomnia, and much more. Unfortunately, the intense high from marijuana can be overwhelming to new users, especially if you consume too much or select the wrong strain. CBD, on the other hand, does not give the user any type of high. It simply offers the benefits of the hemp plant and is an excellent homeopathic option for treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep disorders, and much more. Delta-8 THC falls squarely in the middle of these two cannabinoids by offering a smoother and more subdued high, leaving the user clear-headed and in control despite experiencing a heady high. Delta-8 THC is also legal on a federal level, provided that it is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. Some states have their own legal restrictions on the sale and distribution of Delta-8 THC, so you’ll need to check your state laws before purchasing any Delta-8 THC product.
What Can I Expect To Feel During A Delta-8 THC High?
The high from Delta-8 THC varies with both the user and the product. The reaction time, overall effects, and duration of the high depends on several different factors, such as weight, metabolism, gender, previous exposure to THC, and more. Delta-8 THC products come in almost every form imaginable, but are usually categorized by edibles or inhalables. Edibles include soft gummies, baked goods, oral strips, tinctures, and softgels. Edibles can take anywhere from 30-90 minutes to kick in and usually work best when consumed with a meal, thus allowing the Delta-8 THC to be digested and processed evenly within your stomach and small intestine. In contrast, inhalables like vape cartridges, disposables, pre-rolls, and flower usually kick in within 5-10 minutes and are absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the lungs. The high from inhalables usually lasts anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, while the high from edibles can last for several hours.
If you’re trying any Delta-8 THC product for the first time, it’s important to start with a small dose to see how your body reacts. Remember you can always increase your dosage over time. Consuming too much Delta-8 THC in a single session can result in extreme drowsiness and increased anxiety/paranoia. You should not attempt to operate machinery or vehicles while under the influence of a Delta-8 THC. Some common side effects of a Delta-8 THC high include dry mouth, nausea, and drowsiness, which can be rectified with a quick swig of water or laying down. Some of the more pleasurable side effects include a heightened sense of touch, warm euphoria, relaxation, increased appetite (munchies!) and more. Now that we’ve gone over what Delta-8 THC is and the possible side effects, it’s time to dive headfirst into our product review! We’ll touch on some of the highlights of the D8 THC Shop brand and then start our much-anticipated product review.
D8 THC Shop Brand Overview
While the D8 THC Shop specializes in Delta-8 THC, they also offer other cannabinoid-infused products such as CBD and CBG. From inhalables like vape cartridges, flowers, and preolls to edibles like gummies, softgels, and baked goods, the D8 THC Shop offers premium products that cater to all preferences. We’ve reviewed their softgels and cartridges in our previous article (which you can check out here), but today we’ll be checking out their impressive selection of prerolls. The prerolls come in six different varieties: one indica strains (Grape Ape), three hybrid strains (Tropical Zkittles, Wedding Cake, and Gorilla Glue) and two sativa strains (Green Crack and Apple Jack). You can buy a single pre-roll for a pricey $$22.99 or select their 3- and 5-pack options for $49 and $69, respectively. There were no discounted prices for buying in bulk or repeat subscriptions, but several pop-up windows offered small 10% discounts to encourage larger orders.
Each pre-roll contains a full gram of Delta-8 THC, making them one of the most potent pre-rolls on the market. The prerolls contain hemp flower that has been sprayed with Delta-8 THC concentrate, rolled in premium kief, and finally coated with flavorful terpenes in various strains. A full breakdown of each flavor and strain is listed in the product description, allowing potential consumers to select their pre-rolls according to preference. These pre-rolls eliminate the need for grinding, rolling, and preparing your joints; simply grab one and you’re ready to go! Speaking of being ready to go, it’s time to review the Apple Jack Sativa pre-roll!
Delta-8 THC Pre-Roll Product Review
Pre-rolls are an excellent option for users who enjoy inhalable products, particularly flowers. While there is no such thing as a Delta-8 THC flower (beware of companies who claim to use 100% pure flower…it does not exist), pre-rolls are made by infusing CBD flower with Delta-8 THC isolate. The result is a tightly rolled joint that smells similar to a traditional joint. If you’re not a smoker or experienced joint user, this type of product may be difficult to use and enjoy, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try!
The D8 THC Shop pre-roll was surprisingly large compared to a traditional marijuana joint. The pre-roll came luxuriously packaged in a clear glass tube, and was much heavier than expected. Immediately after opening the tube, I smelled a sharp piney smell with a hint of sweetness and pepper. The pre-roll was very easy to light and I had to gently blow on it to reduce the firelit end. The flavor was smooth, slightly bitter, and had a medium tobacco flavor to it. I was pleased to not feel the overwhelming urge to cough, despite there being a very strong scent of smoke. The pre-roll stayed lit the entire time I puffed on it and ashed very slowly, once in the five minutes of using it. The amount of smoke produced reduced significantly as the filter got clogged, and became more difficult to take a full drag. The first hit was excellent, and felt like it was pulling air cleanly through. Yet after a while, there was less air and less smoke with every hit.
The high was very mellow and smooth, and lasted for about half an hour. Since this was the Apple Jack Sativa blend, I didn’t feel drowsy or weighted. Instead, I felt energized and creative (which in hindsight probably wasn’t the best strain to smoke right before going to bed!). I smoked about ¾ of the pre-roll before extinguishing the lit end and slipping it back into the glass tube. While pre-rolls and inhalables aren’t my preferred Delta-8 THC product, this was a premium product that was quite enjoyable and certainly a refreshing change to my normal Delta-8 THC routine.
D8 THC Shop General Information
Independent lab testing has become a necessity with any cannabinoid product, as it offers peace of mind to the consumer. The FDA does not yet regulate any cannabinoid product, meaning that anyone can create a “pure and potent” Delta-8 THC product, but in reality offer a mediocre product that can be dangerous to consume. What’s worse is that some Delta-8 THC brands piggyback off of legitimate independent lab test results and edit the results, effectively lying to pass off their own product as legitimate actually-tested one. We’ve written a brief Buyer Beware article where you can read about certain companies that we’ve caught doing this, but the reality is that you should always do your own research. You can follow up with the lab listed on the lab results tab, usually listed in the top left corner, and give them the batch information and company information. While it’s unfortunate and shameful that companies will stoop so low, it’s a competitive market that some feel is necessary to score that sale.
Thankfully, the D8 THC Shop is not one of these companies. The D8 THC Shop offers a full list of products that they have had thoroughly tested by independent labs, and offers the results freely to current and potential customers. Simply scroll down to the bottom of any page to locate the “Labs” tab on the far right corner. There you can view the lab results for a plethora of hemp, Delta-8 THC, and CBD infused products. These lab results are expensive and time consuming, but the D8 THC shop is dedicated to offering premium products that are the true embodiment of potency and purity.
The D8 THC Shop sources their hemp from a local Oregan farm to ensure that the hemp is not synthetized by a lab. This organic hemp is extracted and processed in a US-based manufacturing plant to create an incredible lineup of cartridges, tinctures, flowers, and much more. While some companies prefer to outsource their hemp, the D8 THC Shop prefers to support local farmers that in turn create some of the finest Delta-8 THC products in the industry.
Product Packaging – Apple Jack Sativa Pre-Roll
The Apple Jack Sativa Pre-Roll came luxuriously packaged in a clear glass case with a cork stopper. The stopper was wrapped in clear plastic that ensure the pre-roll had not been tampered with as well as to ensure freshness. The company logo was placed directly on the glass via a small sticker, which also had the company website listed in small letters. A large black ribbon-style sticker wrapped completely around the base of the glass tube that displayed what the tube contained: a lab tested pre-roll that contained less than 0.3% THC (as required by the 2018 Farm Bill) that is not intended to be sold to anyone under 18 years old. On the very bottom of the tube was a circular sticker that showed the product flavor (Apple Jack). Due to the slim design, there wasn’t any space for a QR code to scan for lab results, nor was there any ingredients list or suggested dose. But since this is a pre-roll and therefore designed to be smoked by advanced users in one session, this information was not necessary. All in all, this was a simple yet professional package that was perfectly designed.
While I do prefer edibles over inhalables, I was extremely pleased with the D8 THC Shop’s Apple Jack Sativa Pre-Roll. The packaging was professionally designed and was easy to use. I appreciated the generous size of the pre-roll, the lack of coughing while smoking it, and the fact that it stayed lit for the duration of my smoking session. The sativa strain was smooth and easy to smoke, and left me feeling energized and creative. If you find yourself in a bit of a mental stalemate and crave an invigorating high that won’t leave you feeling paranoid and overwhelmed, don’t despair! Head on over to the D8 THC Shop and grab a pack (or several!) of these fantastic pre-rolls to experience the high for yourself.
